Abstract

Regarded as an essential strategy towards eradicating poverty and caring for the environment, sustainability in agriculture meets the basic requirements of the current population without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Even with the growing acceptance of sustainable agriculture, which aims towards food security and environmental health, there are little to no ethical frameworks like Maqasid al-Shariah in agriculture. This study aimed to integrate the principles of Maqasid al-Shariah and sustainable agriculture for ethical and environmental stewardship. To determine the congruence of the two domains of study in this research, a review analysis technique was employed. The results of the review analysis revealed several integrated principles of Maqasid al-Shariah and sustainable agriculture for ethical and environmental stewardship, namely: (a) strengthened ethical consumption and preservation of religion; (b) increased crop yields and preservation of life; (c) policy development and preservation of intellect; (d) enhanced community resilience and preservation of community; and (e) improved farmer well-being and preservation of wealth. In conclusion, the adoption of sustainable agriculture with the fundamentals of Maqasid al-Shariah presents an exceptional chance that, if optimally utilised, would enhance ethical and environmental conservation in agriculture. Further exploration concerning the practice of sustainable agriculture and the application of Maqasid al-Shariah principles needs to be broadened from many perspectives.
