Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of plants used in the traditional medicine of the Dusun Tobilung tribe in Kampung Sarang, Kota Belud, as well as examine the community's experience of the traditional medicine practice. The focus of the plant is Sintotobou (Ficus septica). A qualitative approach was used in this study, involving interview methods and participant observation. Interviews were conducted with practitioners and patients regarding traditional medicine, while observation was also carried out to see the location of medicinal plants. This study also uses the Illness Behavior Theory introduced by Edward Suchman in 1965 to understand how the Dusun Tobilung community manages illness in the context of traditional medicine. The results of the study show that the Dusun Tobilung tribe in Kampung Sarang still maintains traditional medical practices involving the use of various types of local plants. These plants are identified as treating diseases such as fever, stomach ache, wounds and other health problems. Through qualitative approaches such as interviews and participant observation, this study has documented 21 types of medicinal plants, including Sintotobou (Ficus septica), which are important in women's health care after childbirth. Samples were verified at the herbarium to ensure accurate scientific identification. The findings show that younger generations increasingly prefer modern medicine, yet integrating both approaches offers strong potential for holistic, cost-effective treatment while preserving the traditional medical heritage of the Dusun Tobilung community in Kampung Sarang, Kota Belud.
