Abstract

Dapatan menunjukkan 55.0% responden pernah melihat maklumat MAN di media sosial dan 66.0% memberi skor positif bahawa media sosial membantu memahami peranan MAN.

This article analyses how globalisation and technology shape identity conflict and influence the preservation of traditional values among youth in Kota Marudu. Unlike articles that assess institutional awareness or integration strategies, this article focuses on the digital ecology as an arena of identity negotiation. The study employed a case study design and a mixed-methods approach involving 100 youth respondents, 12 in-depth interviews and seven focus group discussions. The findings show that 55.0% of respondents had seen information about MAN on social media and 66.0% gave positive scores indicating that social media helped them understand MAN's role. However, only 38.0% regarded digital information as interesting and informative, while 22.0% considered it unclear. A total of 44.0% acknowledged a conflict between civil law and customary law, 49.0% stated that social activities were prioritised over customary events, yet 83.0% agreed that technology could promote and preserve local culture. Qualitative findings indicate that identity conflict occurs through language, lifestyle, cultural authority and the way youth evaluate the relevance of custom. The article concludes that technology is not merely a promotional tool, but a social arena requiring cultural digital literacy, content quality control and youth-led customary narratives.
