PERKAITAN ANTARA MOTIVASI DAN PENCAPAIAN BAHASA JEPUN DALAM KALANGAN PELAJAR SAINS KEJURUTERAAN

Laporan akademik menunjukkan bahawa wujudnya ketidakseimbangan dan jurang skor yang tinggi terhadap pencapaian bahasa Jepun dalam kalangan pelajar kejuruteraan di Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). Masalah ini disebabkan oleh kurangnya perhatian terhadap faktor psikologi, tujuan, latarbelakang dan keperluan mempelajari bahasa Jepun dalam kalangan pelajar sains kejuruteraan dan teknikal di MTUN. Justeru, kajian ini bertujuan mengenalpasti hubungan motivasi dengan pencapaian pelajar berdasarkan pendekatan The L2 Motivational Self System (L2MSS). Kajian kuantitatif dengan kaedah tinjauan ini melibatkan 392 responden pelajar bahasa Jepun daripada empat buah universiti iaitu Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) dan Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). Hasil tinjauan mendapati bahawa pelajar dipengaruhi oleh faktor guru, rakan sebaya, kuliah dan bahan pengajaran. Malah pelajar mempunyai imaginasi tinggi terhadap penutur asli. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa L2 Learning Experience (LLE) merupakan dimensi paling popular dalam kalangan pelajar bumiputera, manakala pelajar bukan bumiputera lebih tertumpu kepada dimensi The Ideal L2 Self (ILS). Hasil kajian juga mendapati bahawa terdapat korelasi signifikan rendah antara elemen motivasi (L2MSS) dengan pencapaian bahasa Jepun di MTUN.
